The parrot recalls tender Tamil lore — Murugan’s courtship of Valli in fields guarded from parrots — and the saint Arunagirinathar, who is believed to have served the Lord in parrot form. The sugarcane carries the sweetness of devotion and the blessings of prosperity and fertility. Above Him, the Simha Mukha (lion face) watches over, a timeless guardian of the divine.
